If you’re a fan of great TV, you probably watched The White Lotus season 2 and are already eagerly awaiting season 3. So far, both seasons have blended hilarious dark comedy, murder mystery, and social commentary – but the true star is always the scenery and hotels.
While the first season’s singular setting was the result of Covid restrictions in 2020, the formula clearly worked. Creator Mike White decided to stick to his winning idea and set season 2 in a hotel, albeit with a few more secondary locations around Sicily.
Did you drool over the luxurious Sicilian hotel featured in The White Lotus season 2 filming locations? Read ahead to learn more and start planning your own trip to Sicily.
The White Lotus Season 1
Like Season 2, The White Lotus Season 1 was filmed at a Four Seasons property – the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea. The White Lotus hotel chain is loosely inspired by The Four Seasons brand. That’s why main character Tanya returns, even after all she went through in season 1. She’s still loyal to her favourite hotels!
Where Was the White Lotus Season 2 Filmed?
The White Lotus Season 2 was filmed in several locations around the island of Sicily, Italy.
As the cast and crew were no longer held to strict Covid protocols, the filming took place in multiple places. In addition to Taormina, White Lotus season 2 was filmed in Noto, Palermo, and Cefalù. But the primary filming location was the San Domenico Palace, Taormina, a Four Seasons Hotel.
Located on Sicily’s rocky northeast coast, San Domenico Palace is a former 15th-century monastery. Fresh from a refurbishment in 2021, the 5-star resort boasts 111 rooms and suites, a spa, a gourmet restaurant, and a stunning infinity pool that you might still be dreaming about.
The resort offers views of Mount Etna, the Ionian Sea, and an ancient amphitheatre, and has a long history of on-screen fame. It was a filming location for Michelangelo Antonioni’s L’Avventura, referenced frequently in The White Lotus season 2.
Other Locations
Taormina
If you want to experience the White Lotus vibe without checking into San Domenico Palace, head to nearby Taormina, a popular beach destination since ancient times. Snippets of the show were filmed here, so you can still experience the setting without the price tag.
Noto
Daphne and Harper take a day trip to Noto, in Sicily’s southeast. This picturesque town is home to cathedrals, stunning balconies, and vast piazzas guaranteed to take your breath away.
Villa Tasca – Palermo
During Daphne and Harper’s trip to Noto, Daphne surprises her with a night in at Villa Tasca, a private palazzo. However, it isn’t actually located in Noto – you’ll find the ultra-luxury villa on the opposite side of the island, in Palermo.
Cefalù
Medieval Cefalù is a hot tourist destination in the high season, home to a popular beach and a majestic Norman cathedral. You’ll recognise the beach from the opening scene of the season, when Daphne swims out to sea and discovers a body.
For White Lotus fans, Sicily beckons! There is so much to see and do in Sicily – if you enjoyed The White Lotus season 2, this might just be your perfect holiday destination. Just watch your back so you don’t end up like Tanya…
